Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article presents an analysis of the characteristics of works of Lithuanian theatre directors Eimuntas Nekrošius and Oskaras Koršunovas and defines the origins of Lithuanian metaphoric and visual theatrical narrative, emphasizes the tradition of directorial and conceptual authorship theatre art and the interpretative theatre practice, which was born in Lithuanian theatre in the sixties and seventies of the 20th century. The tradition helped the Lithuanian theatre to avoid the vulgar sociologization and ideology, however, also formed the principles of idealistic worldview and “social innocence”, the downfall of which is obvious in Lithuanian theatre of the nineties of the 20th century and especially in the plays of young director O. Koršunovas, which, compared to the works of E. Nekrošius, also acquire a new quality of imagery. When discussing individual works of Nekrošius and Koršunovas and drawing the attention to their evaluation by foreign critics, the author makes the conclusion that the conceptual direction of both Nekrošius and Koršunovas may be defined as emotional and pragmatic. Nekrošius’s theatre is characterized by its emotional spring therefore the shows by the said director are targeted to the communities, which retained the poetic, lyrical and romantic theatre traditions. The pragmatic direction of Koršunovas, first and foremost is based on formulation of a clear thought, which also needs a word, transmitting meaning, as well as a spatial composition of signs, which creates the meaning. The signs are inevitably connected to the context of the true-life and social reality, therefore Koršunovas’s theatre is closer and more understood by the more pragmatic communities, which feel or have overcome the postindustrial crisis.
