Pirmoje straipsnių rinktinės dalyje aptariama dabartinė baltų kalbų situacija, įtraukiant kalbas, kurias tiesiogiai veikė baltų kalbos, jų santykiai, analizuojama geografinė, istorinė, socialinė aplinka. Į aptariamų kalbų lauką patenka lietuvių, latvių kalbos, pietryčių baltų-rusų tarmės, švedų tarmės greta Baltijos jūros, suomių kalba. ENThe reviewed compilation of articles of two parts covers a wide range of studies, dedicated to the Baltic languages, as well as the languages, influenced by the Baltic languages. The compilation characterizes with the plenty of articles, written by different authors. The first part of the compilation discusses the present-day situation of the Baltic languages, including the languages, directly influenced by the Baltic languages, their interrelations and analyzes their geographical, historical and social environment. The discussed languages include the Lithuanian and Latvian languages, Southeastern Baltic – Russian dialects, Swedish dialects, existing near the Baltic Sea and the Finnish language. The studies, presented in the second part of the compilation dedicate most attention to discussion of the grammar of the languages, influenced by the Baltic languages from a wider typological perspective. Although the preface to the compilation declares the attempts to reveal the connections between the examined languages and their influence on the system of one or another language, the author of the review notes the insufficient implementation of the said attempts, since most articles are limited only to discussion of a separate language or dialect.
