Summary / Abstract:

LTXX a. pradžioje nacionalizmas buvo pagrindinė ideologija atgimusios tautos, siekusios sukurti nepriklausomą tautinę valstybę. Intelektualai, tarp jų istorikai, buvo tautinio judėjimo šaukliai ir aktyvūs tautinės valstybės kūrėjai. Straipsnyje analizuojami XX a. pradžios lietuvių istorikų darbai (straipsniai ir didesnės istorinio pobūdžio studijos, kurie pagrįstai laikomi Lietuvos istoriografija). Gvildenamos lietuvių istorikų pažiūros tautos, tautinio identiteto, Lietuvos ir Lenkijos istorijos, tautinio sąjūdžio politinių uždavinių klausimais. Daug dėmesio skiriama XX a. pradžios politinėms aktualijoms bei tam, kaip jas vertino lietuviai istorikai, apibūdinti. Reikšminiai žodžiai: Nacionalizmas; Lietuvos ir Lenkijos istorija; 20 amžius; Lietuvos istoriografija; Tautinės idėjos; Vilniaus krašto problema; Lenkijos teritorinės pretenzijos; Nationalism; History of Lithuania and Poland; Early years of the 20lh C.; Lithuanian historiography; National ideas; Vilnius district problem; Polish territorial c.

ENThis paper, extensively employs articles and studies by Lithuanian historians of the period that are regarded as a heritage of Lithuanian historiography, examines the national ideas and concepts of Lithuanian historians and concentrates on Lithuanian-Polish discussion on questions such as: How they understood nationalism? How they analysed and evaluated political programs for the re-establishment of statehood of Lithuania, i.e. for political autonomy of Lithuania and for Polish-Lithuanian federal state? What kind of arguments they used against the Polish territorial claims toward Vilnius and its district? What are the main features of Klimas' concept of nationalism?. [From the publication]At the beginning of the 20th century nationalism was the main ideology of the resurrected nation, which attempted to develop an independent national state. The intellectuals, including historians were the harbingers of the national movement and active developers of the national state. The article analyzes the studies by Lithuanian historians, written at the beginning of the 20th century (articles and larger studies of history, which are justly considered the historiography of Lithuania), examines the Lithuanian historians’ views with regard to the issues of the nation, the national identity, the history of Lithuania and Poland and the political tasks of the national movement. Significant attention is dedicated to characterization of the political issues of the beginning of the 20th century and the ways they were evaluated by the Lithuanian historians. Those are the relations between independence and the different forms of potential autonomy, nationalism and the national idea, the possibility of a union or federation with Poland and Petras Klimas’s concept of nationalism. In addition the specific aspects of the relations between Lithuanians and Poles are analogically examined, such as the problem of the Vilnius area, i. e. Poland’s territorial claims with regard to Lithuania, which became clear to Lithuania’s society and, certainly, its historians way before the emergence of the independent states of Lithuania and Poland.
