Artistic relations between Lithuania and Kurzeme in the realm of decorative sculpture. End of the 17th century, beginning of the 18th century

LTLigi šiol Lietuvos ir Latvijos meno sąveikos analizė apsiribojo vėlyvojo baroko ir rokoko architektūros bei dekoro tyrinėjimais Latgaloje. Paskutiniais dešimtmečiais atlikti tyrimai atskleidžia ankstyvesnius ryšius, pasireiškusius pietinėje Latvijoje. Kai kurių bažnyčių interjero puošybos istorija susijusi su jėzuitų veikla Latvijoje. Pagrindinės jų rezidencijos buvo Jelgavoje, Kūldygoje, Daugpilyje, Skaistkalnėje, Ilūkštėje, Subatėje. [...] Jėzuitų rezidencija Ilūkštėje egzistuoja tarsi mitinis fenomenas - XVIII a. pastatytas ansamblis buvo sugriautas per I pasaulinį karą; iš komplekso išliko keletas XVII a. pabaigos skulptūrų. Skaistkalnes katalikų bažnyčia pasižymi konceptualiu eksterjero ir interjero sumanymo vientisumu [...] tai pirmas dvibokštės bazilikos su vienuolynu kompleksas šioje teritorijoje. Ji primena panašios struktūros (be transepto ir kupolo) bazilikas Lenkijoje. Skaistkalnes bažnyčioje yra originalūs skulptūriniai retabulas, pulpitas ir vargonai, neturintys analogų Latvijoje. Juose galima atsekti pietinio ir Šiaurės baroko, net liaudiško primityvo bruožų. Straipsnyje aptariamos ir Kurše nuo XVII a. pabaigos veikusios produktyviausios skulptūros dirbtuvės, kurios dirbinių gausiausiai aptinkama aplink Subatę. Čia dirbinius užsakinėdavo ir Lietuvos bei lenkiškosios Livonijos bažnyčios. Anksčiausias žinomas dirbtuvės kūrinys - tai retabulas iš Ventspilio bažnyčios (XVII a. pab.). Šių dirbtuvių meistrų darbui priskirtinas ir Stelmužės retabulas bei dvi apaštalų figūros iš Šilutės muziejaus. Meniniai ryšiai tarp Lietuvos ir Latvijos XVII ir XVIII a. buvo sukoncentruoti ir apsiribojo pasienio teritorija. Jų saviti bruožai paįvairina regiono stiline panoramą. ENUntil present the analysis of interrelation of Lithuanian and Latvian art was limited to studies of the late Baroque and Rococo architecture and decoration in Latgala. The studies, performed in later decades reveal earlier connections, which emerged in the Southern Latvia. The history of interior decoration of certain churches is related with Jesuit activities in Latvia. Their main residences were in Jelgava, Kuldiga, Daugavpils, Skaistkalne, Ilukste and Subate. [...] The Jesuit residence in Ilukste exists like a mythical phenomenon – the ensemble, constructed in the 18th century, was demolished during the WWI; only several sculptures of the end of the 17th century have survived. The Skaistkalne Catholic church characterizes with a conceptual integrity of conception of exterior and interior [...] this is the first complex of a two-tower basilica with a convent on the territory. It reminds Polish basilicas of a similar structure (without a transept and a dome). The Skaistkalne church has an original sculptural retable, pulpit and organ, which have no analogue in Latvia. Traits of Southern and Northern Baroque and even folk primitive can be traced there. The article also discusses the most productive sculpture shop, which was functioning in Kuršas from the end of the 17th century, plenty of creations of which can be found around Subate. Lithuanian and Polish Livonian churches also ordered articles there. The earliest known creation of the shop is the retable from the Ventspils church (end of the 17th century). The retable of Stelmužė and two figures of apostles, found in the museum of Šilutė are also attributed to the creative of the masters of the shop. The artistic relations between Lithuania and Latvia in the 17th and 18th century were quite concentrated and limited to the borderline territory. Their peculiar traits variegate the stylistic panorama of the region.
