Changes at the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts: the alternative in the Post-Soviet environment

LTStraipsnyje svarstoma, kaip posovietinio gyvenimo kaita ir atviros rinkos sąlygos veikė pokyčius Vilniaus dailės akademijos studijų programoje. Atskiroms katedroms įgijus daugiau savivaldos, programų kūrimas ėmė daugiau priklausyti nuo dėstytojo asmenybės ir kūrybingumo. Būsimų menininkų ugdymo programose atsirado alternatyvos galimybė, skatinanti kaitą ir atsinaujinimą. Pokyčiai įvyko ne iš karto: pereinamąjį laikotarpį (1988–1990) keitė centralizuoto valdymo griūties (1990–1994) metas. Stabilizacijos laikotarpiu (1995–2000) prasidėjo reorganizacijos procesai, kurie dar neišsprendė konflikto tarp tradicijos sergėtojų ir alternatyvos kūrėjų. Integracijos laikotarpiu (nuo 2000) administracinėje veikloje išryškėjo siekis studijų programas derinti su Europos Sąjungos nuostatais. Reikšmingi pokyčiai įvyko Skulptūros katedroje. Patvirtinus Mindaugo Navako programą „Skulptūra po konceptualizmo“, pradėtos stiprinti tos menininkų kompetencijos, kurių reikia, kad jie būtų konkurencingi tarptautiniu mastu. Ši programa menininkams atvėrė naujas perspektyvas ir praturtino meno praktiką naujovėmis. Be to, ši programa paskatino diegti visiškai naujas edukacines strategijas, nukreiptas į kūrybingumą ir inovatyvų savarankišką galvojimą. Nors integraciniai procesai suteikė galimybių individualių programų kūrėjams remtis Vakarų meno mokyklų patirtimi, į individualias studijų programas vis dar žiūrima kontraversiškai. Skulptūros katedros pavyzdys laikytinas pirmu žingsniu link alternatyvos pripažinimo posovietinėje Vilniaus dailės akademijoje.

ENThe paper considers how the change of the post-Soviet life and open market conditions affected changes in the study programme of Vilnius Academy of Arts. After individual departments acquired more autonomy, development of programmes depended more on the personality and creativity of teachers. The training programmes of future artists opened up the opportunity for an alternative, which promoted change and renewal. Changes did not occur immediately: the transitional period (1988–1990) was followed by the period of the collapse of centralised government (1990–1994). Reorganisation processes started in the stabilisation period (1995–2000), which however did not solve the conflict between the guardians of tradition and the creators of alternative. During the integration period (from 2000) the aim to harmonise study programmes with the European Union regulations was emphasised in the administrative activities. The Department of Sculpture underwent significant changes. After the programme “Sculpture after Conceptualism” by Mindaugas Navakas was approved, the competencies of artists, necessary for their international competitiveness, started to be developed. This programme opened up new opportunities for artists and enriched art practice with novelties. Moreover, this programme encouraged to introduce completely new educational strategies focused on creativity and innovative independent thinking. Although integration processes provided the authors of individual programmes with opportunities to refer to the experience of Western art schools, individual study programmes are still viewed with controversy. The example of the Department of Sculpture is considered to be the first step towards recognition of an alternative in the post-Soviet Vilnius Academy of Arts.
