Summary / Abstract:

LTStraipsnyje analizuojamos galimos Piltenės seniūnų dinastinės aspiracijos XVII a. 1621-1623 m. seniūnu tapo vietos dvarininkas Hermann.as Maydell.is, kilęs iš garsios Estijos Maydell.ių giminės. 1623 m. jam taip pat pavyko tapti Piltenės apskrities landratų kolegijos prezidentu, kuriuo liko iki mirties 1639 m. Kai Hermann.as Maydell.is perėmė abi pareigybes - Piltenės seniūno ir landratų kolegijos prezidento, tapo iš esmės dominuojančia figūra. Dar daugiau, 1633 m. karalius Vladislovas IV leido seniūno teises perleisti sūnui Otonui Ernestui. Žymus istorikas Heinz'as Mattiesen'as 1957 m. tvirtino, kad Hermann.as Maydell.is Piltenės srityje mėgino sukurti dinastiją, analogiška Kuršo kunigaikščiams Ketleriams. Remiantis Marburge saugomu Hermann.o Maydell.io testamentu, bei kitų duomenų ir aplinkybių analize Maydell.ių dinastiniais ketinimais verta suabejoti. Pati giminė įaugo į Respublikos elito struktūras, o Hermann.as Maydell.is buvo tiesiog vietos magnatas, žinantis savo reikšmę ir vietą, bet ne daugiau.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Valstybė konglomeratas; Lenkijos-Lietuvos valstyvbė; Valdžios struktūros; Giminės istorija; Piltenės pavietas; Livonija (Livonia); Kuršas.

ENThe article analyzes the possible dynasty aspirations of Piltenė elders in the 17th century. The Piltenė area is a former land of Kuršas bishopric, a “nobility republic” of sorts in direct subordination to the King of the Republic. Starting from 1617 Piltenė area was governed by the board of landrats, assigned by the small sejm, approved by the king and headed by the president. The elder played a not fully regulated role in the area. He gave an oath to the king and managed the former domain of the bishop. In 1621-1623 local noble Hermann Maydell, from a well-known Estonian family of Maydells became the elder. In 1623 he also succeeded to become the president of the board of landrats of Piltenė area, which he remained till his death in 1639. When Hermann Maydell took over both titles – the elder of Piltenė and the president of the board of landrats, he became a dominant figure. Moreover in 1633 King Vladislav IV allowed him to pass his rights of the elder to his son Oton Ernest. In 1957 the well-known historian Heinz Mattiesen stated that Hermann Maydell attempted to create a dynasty, analogous to Kuršas dukes Kettlers. Referring to the testament of Hermann Maydell, preserved in Magdeburg and the analysis of other data and circumstances, the dynasty intentions of Maydells can be doubted. The family itself integrated into the structures of the elite of the Republic and Hermann Maydell was just a local magnate, aware of his significance, but not more.
