Learning to teach abroad: reflections on the role of the visiting social work educator

LTVisame pasaulyje populiarėjant socialiniam darbui, plečiasi ir socialinio darbo mokymas, vis daugiau kuriama mokymo programų. Socialinio darbo profesija atsiranda ir posovietinėse šalyse ar tokiose valstybėse (Afrikoje, Azijoje), kur jos anksčiau nebuvo. Vis daugiau socialinio darbo dėstytojų iš Vakarų valstybių įsitraukia į mokymo procesą užsienyje. Straipsnio autorė, remdamasi savo dėstymo patirtimi Vytauto Didžiojo universitete 1996-1997 metais, ieško atsakymų į klausimus, kokie kultūriniai iššūkiai yra neatsiejami nuo kviestinio socialinio darbo dėstytojo vaidmens, kaip atsakyti į šiuos iššūkius internacionalizuojant mokymo programas. Nagrinėjant kviestinio socialinio darbo lektoriaus vaidmenį, didžiausias dėmesys skiriamas dviem temom: būtinybei suprasti konkrečios šalies vietinius poreikius ir problemas, bei skatinti socialinio darbuotojo profesinį tapatumą. Akcentuojama, kad prieš rengiant mokymą ir praktines intervencijas svarbu suprasti toje šalyje egzistuojančius poreikius ir problemas. Apibrėžiant ir palaikant socialinio darbuotojo profesinį tapatumą, būtina susieti esminius socialinio darbo principus su konkrečios šalies poreikiais ir problemomis.

ENAs social labour has been becoming more and more popular throughout the world, the activities of training of social workers are also developing with elaboration of plenty of new training programmes. The profession of a social worker is emerging in post-Soviet states and other (African and Asian) countries. More and more social labour trainers from the West get involved in the training processes in foreign countries. The author of the article, referring to her experience as a lecturer at Vytautas Magnus University in 1996-1997, attempts to provide the answers to the questions on which cultural challenges are integral to the role of a visiting social labour lecturer and the ways of addressing the challenges by internationalizing the training programmes. When examining the role of a visiting social labour lecturer, the major attention is dedicated to the following two subjects: the necessity of understanding the local needs and problems of a specific country and encouraging the professional identity of the social worker. The aspect that prior to preparation of training courses and practical interventions it is important to get an understanding of the needs and problems, existing in the country is emphasized. When defining and supporting the professional identity of the social worker, it is necessary to relate the essential principles of social labour with the needs and problems of the specific country.
