ENJean Emmanuel Gilibert, a French professor of anatomy, surgery and natural history, came to Lithuania in 1775. He studied several species of wild animals by raising them in captivity and obseriving their behaviour. In this paper, we prewsent J. E. Gilibert's description of two young brown bears that he had raised, as well as some information on wild-living bears in Lithuanian woodlands, methods of bear hunts and taming.
