Summary / Abstract:

3 a. *-inti<*-nt.

ENThe athematic present in ancient Lithuanian “miegmi” is related to Slavic “мьži-“, “мьžati” as both of them originate from the Baltic and Slavic athematic present (which perhaps had root apophony) with secondary stem *-ā. In the Slavic proto-language, this athematic present became an *-ī present, perhaps, due to the influence of the 3rd person in plural *-inti<*-nt. The Vedas’ “ni-méghamāna-“ is directly related to this Baltic and Slavic formation.
