In defense of an old idea: the *-o stem origin of the indoeuropean ablative case

ENThe article defends the old (K. Brugmann’s and A. Meillet’s) idea that the ablative case emerged in the Indo-European parent language from the o stem declension. It is speculated that the ablative case was derived from the old dative-instrumental by adding the dental consonant *-d/-t. Overall, new cases emerged when the nominative structure formed in the Indo-European Parent Language, which previously had a ergative structure, due to which the inflection system underwent major changes.
