Summary / Abstract:

[Iš leidinio]Reikšminiai žodžiai: Valdžia ir piliečiai; Pokomunistinė transformacija; Politinė kairė; Politinė dešinė; Ekskomunistai; Power and citizens; Post-communist transition; Political Left; Political Right; Excommunists.

ENThe downfall of the communist system and the re-establishment of the independence of Lithuania were closely related though ambiguous political processes. Post-communist transformation that took place between 1992 and 1996 brought back the former communists to the Olympus of power who called themselves the LDDP. When exerting control over the Seimas and the Government, they implemented a relevant strategy of reforms, however, they co-ordinated it inadequately with general interests of society and differentiated separate social strata. Due to that, negative tendencies, which led to logical and unavoidable changes in the ruling elite revealed themselves. The amplitude of the political “left” and “right” in Lithuania of that time was especially obvious therefore investigations can open new insights, which at least in part correct customary attitudes. The authors of the article try to define the nature of these processes, to explain the causes and outcomes of the temporary victory (1992) and loss of the LDDP in the elections to the Seimas (1996). Key words: the authorities and citizens, post-communist transformation, political “left”, political “right”, and former communists.
