Summary / Abstract:

ENThe spreading of first hunting-gathering societies in Varniai region is connected with changing of coast line of the Biržulis-Lukstas glacial lake and can be dated 10.500 B. C. From the Mesolithic period (8.000-4.500 B. C.) we have investigated sites in Dreniai, Kalniškiai and Janapolė villages (see map in page 10) and one Mesolithic burial place in Spiginąs island. During Neolithic period in the same region we have 30 settlements (majority of them are investigated) and two burial places, connected mainly with Narva and Corded Ware cultures. Fishing, hunting and farming equipment made from stone, flint, bone, wood is well represented. [p. 266].
