LTŠių dienų didžiausių aktualijų yra siekiamybė asmenis, turinčius proto negalią, integruoti į bendruomenę, padedant socialiniam darbuotojui. Socialinio darbuotojo dalyvavimo idėja siekia sumažinti asmenų, turinčių proto negalią, socialinius trukdžius ir padedant socialiniam darbuotojui siekti aktyvaus įsitraukimo į bendruomenės gyvenimą. Taip pat tyrimas atskleidė, kad socialiniai darbuotojai savo darbe mato daugiau klientą iš jo perspektyvos, nes jie nėra linkę į profesinės veiklos tobulinimą, o labiau gilinasi į kliento jausmus, integracijos procesą, į bendruomenę.
