ENThis study is an attempt to outline the issues of research on the structure and genesis of the text, a reconstruction of the creative process of religious works created in the GDL in the first period of the formation of the Lithuanian language, which was accompanied by two other languages - Latin and Polish. In this connection, the article briefly reviews the research on an important component of religious texts – the paratext. The basic trends in its description are shown, important functions performed are discussed and its complex structure in multilingual texts written at the beginning of the 17th century is presented. Using two monuments from this period as an example – the sermons of Jakub Wujek translated by Mikołaj Dauksza and the original bilingual sermons of Konstanty Szyrwid – the role of marginal footnotes and indexes in the works of both authors is discussed, focusing on the historical context of these works and the intention of the authors in the process of their creation, made visible in these text fragments. Keywords: textology, paratext, theolinguistics, sermon, writing of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Daukša, Sirvydas.
