Vyskupiškių piliakalnis

LT2004 m. pratęsti ir baigti archeologiniai tyrinėjimai Vyskupiškių piliakalnyje (Klaipėdos r.), pradėti 2003 m. (žr. ATL 2003 metais, V., 2005, p. 33). Piliakalnyje iš viso ištirtas 60 m2 plotas. Tyrinėjimams parinktos vietos, kur pagal tvarkymo darbų projektą buvo numatyta iki natūralaus grunto byrėjimo kampo nukasti piliakalnio šlaitus [p. 32].

ENIn 2004 in the Vyskupiškiai hill-fort an area of 60 m2 was investigated. In the trench No. 3 (15 m2) next to the trenches investigated in 2003 a 0.2-0.4 m thick cultural layer with several smooth and rusticated pottery shards and charred wood particles was found. In the trench No. 4 (45 m2) the rampart section was made. The rampart was mounded on the burned earlier wooden fortifications in one step using sandy loam and black earth. In front of the 2 m high rampart from the side of the foot settlement there was a ditch presently being 1.5 m deep. From the side of the flattened top a 1.5 x 2.5 m fragment of small stones pavement was uncovered. In this trench several potshards and a graver or a harrow bar were found. Applying the radiocarbon dating method to the charcoal found in the ditch the rampart formation and the ditch excavation were dated to the 9th-10th century.
