ENAt the request of the Antanas Giedraitis-Giedrius Gymnasium in Jurbarkas, a field evaluation was made in May 2006 at a sports complex construction site (in an area of 2850 m2). A total area of 92 m2 was excavated at the planned construction site on the grounds of Jurbarkas manor using test pits and about 400 finds were discovered, the majority of which consisted of thrown household pottery sherds fired in a reduction atmosphere and dating to the 17th–19th centuries. In the autumn of 2006 the full excavation of an area of 1456 m2 was conducted at this site. A cultural layer 0.3–1 m thick was discovered throughout the territory and over 20 000 finds characteristic to Modern age settlements and dating to the 2nd half of the 16th–20th centuries were collected. The majority of the finds are from the late 16th–17th century. 3 pottery kilns were found in trenches 10, 11, and 13. These kilns are special in that they are not made of ordinary brick but of stones bound with a mortar with an unusual composition (a large chopped straw content).
