Summary / Abstract:

LT2006 m. buvo tęsiami archeologiniai tyrinëjimai Jaučakių piliakalnio papëdës gyvenvietës teritorijoje (Kauno r.) (A 346K2), pradëti 2001 m. (þr. ATL 2001 metais, V., 2002, p. 60–62; ATL 2003 metais, V., 2005, p. 5961; ATL 2004 metais, V., 2006, p. 57–58; ATL 2005 metais, V., 2006, p. 37–39). 2006 m. tyrinëta sklypo 20 P dalyje. ENIn 2006 the excavations, begun in 2001, continued at the settlement at the foot of Jaučakiai hill fort. The lots of a gardeners’ association are currently located there and the soil is being constantly worked. In 2006 the excavation of lot 20 was completed and the excavation of lot 17 in the highest part of the settlement is continuing. A total area of 269 m2 was excavated. A cultural layer undisturbed by ploughing survives only in the 34 storage and cooking pits that have been found. The majority of the finds are ceramic pot sherds with rough surfaces. This is the first time in excavating this settlement that they have succeeded in reconstructing the pots and establishing their size. Their height is from 12–13 cm to 18–19 cm, the diameter of the bottom 10–12 cm, and of the mouth 12–17 cm. The exterior of the pots is very rough and the pots have been fired at a low temperature. The pottery dates to the 6th–14th centuries. A blacksmith’s forge and slag from iron casting were found but the remains of the furnace were not located. The remains of many domestic and wild animal bones were found in the pits.
