Industrial kiln at Rinktinės St. 6 in Vilnius
Summary / Abstract:

LTRinktinės g. 6 (sklype prie Juozapavičiaus ir Rinktinės g. sankirtos), Vilniuje 2008 m. atlikti žvalgomieji archeologiniai tyrinėjimai. Nustatyta, kad didžiojoje sklypo dalyje vertingi kultūrinio sluoksnio horizontai nesusidarę arba sunaikinti formuojant dabartinį paviršių [p. 466].

ENDuring an evaluation at Rinktinės St. 6 it was established that no valuable cultural layer exists in the majority of the plot. A 7 x 9 brick, stone, and clay construction was found at a depth of 0.4 m in the central part of the plot. It was conjectured that it could be a fragment of the base of an industrial kiln. The dimensions of the former kiln were determined during a later excavation: 12 x 7 x 1.4 m. Its exterior wall is 0.9–1.2 m thick and made of bricks laid with clay, which is characteristic of the 17th century. Stones and roofing tile sherds were also used in the wall. The kiln had two chambers: a firebox on the S and a firing chamber on the N. Three stages in the reconstruction of the kiln were distinguished. The masonry wall from the last reconstruction dates to the early 18th century. The available data allow one to state that the kiln was used for firing structural ceramics during the 17th – early 18th century.
