Eišiškių piliavietė

LTXVI a. rašytiniai šaltiniai Eišiškių pilį mini kaip vieną seniausių lietuvių pilių. Spėjama, kad XIV a. II pusėje čia buvo kunigaikščio Sudimanto ir jo sesers Onos, Vytauto žmonos, tėvonija. XIX a. I pusėje piliavietės kieme, PV kampe buvo įrengta Peterburgo–Varšuvos optinio telegrafo stotis, kurios pastatų liekanų yra išlikę dar ir dabar. Piliavietė nėra sistemingai tyrinėta, tik nuo XX a. vidurio beveik kas dešimtmetį archeologų žvalgyta (1955, 1968, 1979, 1988 m.). Piliavietės kieme po velėna vietomis buvo pastebėtas 40–60 cm storio tamsios maišytos žemės sluoksnis. 1999 m. tiesiant optinį kabelį piliavietės prieigose, G. Zabiela vykdė žvalgomuosius archeologinius tyrimus. Jis ištyrė 40 m2 plotą, bet kultūrinio sluoksnio nerado. Iki šiol nėra tiksliai žinoma piliavietės įrengimo data, neaišku, ar išvis čia buvo pastatyta pilis, ar tik paruošus piliavietę, ji jau buvo apleista. 2009 m. VPU vykdė tyrimus piliavietės kieme [p. 186].

ENIn 2009 VPU conducted an excavation of the yard at the Eišiškės castle site (East Lithuania, Šalčininkai District). Two trenches with a total length of 50 m and a width of 3 m were excavated in the SW part of the castle’s yard. In the greater part of trench I the cultural layer was 20–25 cm thick. No archaeologically valuable finds were discovered in trench I. Two stone pavings were unearthed in it. The cultural layer in trench II was 20–80 cm thick. Sherds of late 18th – early 20th century household pottery were found in it. A 2.7 x 2.3 m foundation with a fireplace was unearthed at a depth of 30 cm in trench II. The building dates to the 19th century and should be connected with the optical telegraph building complex. The search for people who had been killed and thrown in a well was continued in the W moat of the castle site but nothing was found in the well’s bottom.
