ENThe thesis assesses the urban structure morphology that has developed in Lithuanian cities, and reveals urban morphological structures and the consistency of transformation of their different elements. The study analyses the peculiarities of morphological structure transformations of Lithuanian cities (Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Alytus, Marijampolė, Utena, Telšiai and Tauragė) under the conditions of various social systems in 1940–2002. The thesis explores trends of urban morphology, features of the essential process of transformation of the urban morphology structure and its methodological principles for the study of the selected area (the central part of the city) and period (1945–2002). The study presents the development and consistency of formation of one of the most significant units of the morphological structure (land ownership) in Lithuanian cities, analyses transformations of the morphological structure of the selected urban areas and describes their consistent features in the periods under consideration. The urban form and structure are analysed through the study of utilitarian (functional characteristics), morphostructural (characteristics of structural elements by using different indicators) and aesthetic (compositional peculiarities of the arrangement of structural elements and their interrelation) individual features of transformations. The thesis deals with urban morphological deformations, their typology and conditions for their regulation in Lithuanian cities, as well as the forecast of expansion of the subject cities with respect to the analysed features.
