ENThe environmentalist movement constituted a visible part of Lithuania’s move towards independence in the late 1980s, although later the focus shifted to country’s transition reforms and changes that followed the re-establishment of independence in 1990. After accession into the EU in 2004, political salience of environmental policies increased again. The current Government has set ambitious goals in its program aimed at reducing pollution and accelerating green transition. However, those ambitions still have to be matched by effective actions.
