Summary / Abstract:

LT2016 m. rugpjūtį atlikti žvalgomieji tyrimai ir žvalgymai Veisiejų miesto istorinėje dalyje (UK 17121) ir Veisiejų buvusios dvaro sodybos fragmentų (UK 270) teritorijoje (Lazdijų r.). Žvalgant sklype S. Dariaus ir S. Girėno g. 21 ištirti 2 šurfai (bendras tyrimų plotas-3 m2 ). Šurfe 1 fiksuotas iki 1,3 m storio maišytas XIX–XX a. kultūrinis sluoksnis su pavieniais XVII–XVIII a. radiniais (buitinės keramikos indų šukėmis ir koklių fragmentais). [...] [p. 336].

ENIn 2016, field evaluations (nine test pits, 13 m2 ) and a survey (13 m2 ) were conducted in the historical part of the city of Veisiejai (Lazdijai district) and on the grounds of the former Veisiejai manor complex. Two test pits (3 m2 ) were excavated at S. Dariaus ir S. Girėno St. 21. The stratigraphy of the cultural layer on this plot was clear in test pit 2, where a 17th–18th century horizon was recorded at a depth of roughly 55–130 cm. A 17th–19th-century building foundation was unearthed at a depth of 55–70 cm. The earliest cultural layer horizon, which contained 16th–17th century finds, was recorded at a depth of 1.1–1.3 m.Three test pits (5 m2 ) were excavated at Kreivoji st. 22 and in the street itself. A mixed cultural layer, which was up to 45 cm thick and contained sparse 17th–20th century finds, was recorded in test pit 1 in the E part of the plot. A mixed cultural layer containing 17th–20th century finds was recorded down to a depth of 60–70 cm in test pit 2. A 20th century culture layer containing 16th–20th century finds was recorded in test pit 3. Two test pits (2 m2 ) were excavated on the plot at V. Montvilos st. 10. All of the discovered finds date to the 20th century while the handmade bricks could have been brought from another location and reused. Two test pits (3 m2 ) were excavated on the plot at D. Sadausko st. 6. A mixed cultural layer with 16th–20th century finds was recorded down to a depth of 1.6 m in test pit 1. A 19th century cultural layer with isolated earlier finds was recorded down to a depth of 70–110 cm in test pit 2 and below that, from a depth of 1.1–1.3 m, an undisturbed archaeological layer that formed no later than the 17th century. 13 m2 were also surveyed. During the survey, the foundation of one of the previously demolished Veisiejai manor buildings and possibly the lower part of a wall that is likely to have belonged to the left wing of the demolished manor house were discovered at a depth of roughly 50–55 cm.
