ENIn 2017, an investigation in Ukmergė yielded information about the Stone and Early Metal age axes found and preserved by the inhabitants of this city and its environs. A large polished grey flint celt found in Ukmergė was ascribed to the square cross section celt group, which is characteristic for Late Neolithic camps, but could have also been used up until the Late Bronze Age. Half of a stone shaft hole axe made of greenish coarse granite was found at a depth of 30 cm in Nuotekai village (Ukmergė district). The axe’s face was convex and its sides almost parallel, flaring somewhat towards the bit edge. It is ascribable to the group of axes with a long square pole and convex faces which dates to the second half of the 2nd–1st millennium bc. A bronze flanged axe was found on the ground’s surface in Virkščiai village (Ukmergė district). Based on its form, the Virkščiai axe is ascribable to the East Baltic flanged axe type and dates to 1300–1100 bc.
