Summary / Abstract:

ENThe importance of specialists in natural and art sciences in solving topical environmental quality problems of recent times has greatly increased. Landscape architects embody collaboration between different natural, art, technical and social disciplines, seeking and discovering creative and naturally sustainable solutions to environmental degradation, pollution, and poor quality of life. Paradoxically, in the light of such challenges, the profession of landscape architect in Lithuania is recently going through a period of trials and hopes. The article analyses the links between the profession of landscape architect and current problems and future perspectives of town planning and development. On the basis of the research, guidelines are provided for the establishment and further strengthening of the profession of landscape architect in Lithuania, covering the areas of education, professional practice and continuous professional development. The importance of specialists in natural and art sciences in solving current environmental quality problems of recent times has grown significantly. Landscape architects take care of cooperation between different natural, artistic, technical and social disciplines, searching for and discovering creative and naturally sustainable solutions to the problems of environmental degradation, pollution and quality of life. The profession of landscape architect makes a significant contribution to the formation of a sustainable environment in the country. Participation and management of landscape architecture objects (parks, squares, squares, cultural landscape and infrastructure objects) projects and work in the preparation of building construction projects create preconditions for achieving better quality of projects and objects and avoiding gross environmental management errors. It is paradoxical that against the background of such challenges, the profession of landscape architect in Lithuania has recently been experiencing a period of trials and hopes. IFLA Europe, the federation of associations of landscape architects, aims to harmonize the regulation of the profession and to establish common qualification requirements. In assessing and solving today’s problems, we need to strengthen the profession of landscape architect, the training of specialists working in it, the growth of qualifications, equal and fair conditions of competition, as well as the responsibility and ethics of specialists. In the field of studies, it is important to restore the bachelor’s and, later, the master’s studies in landscape architecture to ensure the training of young professionals. The studies should assess the shortcomings identified and the recommendations of the international professional networks IFLA Europe and ECLAS.Recognition of the qualification of a landscape architect would help to improve the quality of services and prevent mistakes. Establishing this procedure is a priority for LASE, the academic and business community. The procedure for the recognition of professional qualifications established in Lithuania must comply with the provisions of the Common Qualifications Platform developed by IFLA Europe and its partners. The article analyses the links between the profession of landscape architect and current problems and future perspectives of town planning and development. On the basis of the research, guidelines are provided for the establishment and further strengthening of the profession of landscape architect in Lithuania, covering the areas of education, professional practice and continuous professional development.
