ENAllspheres of life, including the justice system, have been affected by theCovid-19 pandemicin Lithuania. The influence of the pandemic has been felt since March 2020 and perhapswill be felt throughout 2021. Lithuania has been affected much more during the secondwave than during the first wave of the coronavirus in spring. The first quarantine wasintroduced1on 16 March 2020 and remained in effect up to 16 June 2020. The secondquarantine was introduced on 7 November 2020, with much stricter rules2from16 December and is still in effect as of January 2021. The Covid-19 pandemic has causedjudges, lawyers and others involved in the justice system to reassess how they operate ina rapidly changing environment. This article describes the ‘new normal’ for the civilproceedings in Lithuania and discusses the lessons that can be learned from this crisis.
