Merkinės miestas ir kraštas istorinėje kartografijoje

LTPagrindinis šio leidinio tikslas yra paskelbti iki šiol nepublikuotus Merkinės miesto ir krašto gyvenviečių planus, todėl leidinyje nėra skelbiami internete plačiai skaitmeninėse kolekcijose aptinkami Merkinės XIX a. II pusės - XX a. I pusės kariniai topografiniai planai, taip pat Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės laikotarpio bendri valstybės ar atskirų vaivadijų planai, kuriuose taip pat yra vaizduojamas ir Merkinės kraštas. Pagrindinis šių naujai publikuojamų šaltinių laikotarpis apima XVIII a. pab. - XX a. I pusę. Leidinys suskirstytas j atskiras dalis, kurias sudaro parengti XVIII a. pab. - XIX a. atskiri Merkinės planai, XVIII a. pab. - XIX a. Merkinės apylinkių ir dvaro žemių planai, XIX a. aplinkinių privačių ir neprivačių dvarų žemių ir palivarkų planai, XIX a. Merkinės apylinkės kaimų planai bei XX a. I pusės Merkinės miestelio sklypų planai, projektai, aerofotografijos. Didelė dalis kaimų, kurių skelbiami atskiri žemių kartografiniai šaltiniai, XIX a. priklausė Merkinės valdiškam dvarui, nedidelė dalis minimų kaimų priklausė Perlojos ir Varėnos valdiškiems, taip pat privatiems dvarams. Prie šių kaimų, kurie nepriklausė Merkinės dvarui, planų aprašuose nurodyta atskirai kaimo priklausomybė vieniems iš minėtų dvarų. Šalia skelbiamo bendro plano vaizdo pateikiami ir detalesni kaimų išplanavimo vaizdai. Tikimės, kad šis leidinys leis žymiai plačiau pažvelgti j Merkinės miesto ir krašto raidą, pasitarnaus ne tik istorijos mėgėjams, bet ir profesionalams tyrinėjant miesto ir apylinkių praeitj, taip pat rengiant jvairius teisės aktus, kuriant Merkinės ir kitų saugomų gyvenviečių tolesnes raidos koncepcijas. Galų gale, tai turėtų tapti puiki priemonė, padedanti suvokti savo gyvenamos aplinkos raidą tiek seniesiems vietos gyventojams, tiek ir naujai jsikuriantiems šiame unikaliame Lietuvos regione [Iš Pratarmės].

ENHistorical research of the local region is not possible without a broader analysis of historical cartographic sources. The first known sources of historical cartography dedicated to Merkinė are known from the end of the 18th century but historical sources testify that the creation of plans and maps in this region took place much earlier. It is known that the plan of part of the lands of Merkinė was made as early as 1640, but today we do not know the fate of this source. Other much later plans of the Merkinė region were drawn up after the occupation of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The first maps of the areas known to us were compiled by military specialists from both the Kingdom of Prussia and the Russian Empire shortly after the annexation of these lands. Later plans of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century were drawn up mainly by the institutions of Russian Empire Vilnius Governorate At that time, plans were drawn up for private, state, religious estates, villages, towns, and cities. At that time, the first village plans of the Merkinė region known to us were drawn up. In the first half of the 19th century, detailed plans of Merkinė town were already made in which not only the plots but also all the buildings of the town were marked No such plans of the town were made in the early 20th century. It is not known whether the plan of Merkine town was drawn up before World War II. The plans known to us before World War II include only individual plots of Merkinė town. The aerial photographs of the town taken in 1944 reveal the material losses of World War II. This situation of the town is also reflected in the plan of Merkinė town made by Lithuanian partisans in 1945.
