Summary / Abstract:

ENThe subject of town founding is discussed in the article. The local landscape and geographical situation were used for good communication by rivers. Three-four components acted in Kaunas medieval town development. Those components were the old settlement, stone castle with its builders settled alongside and new planned medieval town. All of them operated without close interplay and accomplished different demands. New founded medieval town was planned in the open area and accepted the traditions of German law. Archaeological investigations and numerous material enable to discuss the interaction between aforesaid elements in town developing.
