ENDemocratization in post-communist countries has been one of the focal themes amongresearchers interested in the post-Soviet region. Undoubtedly, countries like Poland,Hungary, former Czechoslovakia, ex-Yugoslavia, Romania, and Bulgaria received thebulk of attention, while the Baltic States, due to their geopolitical insignificance,garnered much less interest (an exception being research focused on minority rights). Janušauskienė seeks to contribute to the literature on democratization by examiningthe political transformation in Lithuania during the period 1988–2001. To narrowdown a very broad topic of democratic transition, she focuses on the role of politicalelites and specifically on youth political organizations.
