LT1791 m. gegužės 3 d. Abiejų Tautų Respublikos konstitucija, pirmoji moderni Konstitucija Europoje ir antroji pasaulyje, užima itin svarbią vietą Lietuvos ir Lenkijos valstybių konstitucinės minties raidoje. Konstitucijoje atsispindėjo ne tik pažangiausios XVIII a. antrosios pusės reformos. Joje buvo įtvirtinta esminė valstybės valdymo reforma, paklojusi pamatus konstitucinei monarchijai ir sudariusi prielaidas formuotis naujai pilietinei visuomenei. Publikaciją sudaro įvadiniai epochos sudėtingumą ir Gegužės 3-iosios konstitucijos reikšmę apžvelgiantys straipsniai bei jos tekstas: skelbiami 1791 m. gegužės 3 d. priimtas „Valdymo įstatymas" ir jį papildantys įstatymai - 1791 m. kovo 24 d. priimtas „Seimelių", balandžio 18 d. - „Mūsų karališkieji laisvieji miestai Respublikos valstybėse" ir spalio 20 d. - „Abiejų Tautų savitarpio įsipareigojimas". Publikacija parengta išlikusių ir Vyriausiajame senųjų aktų archyve Varšuvoje saugomų dokumentų originalų pagrindu. Pirmą kartą istoriografijoje tekstai publikuojami „veidrodiniu" principu šalia pateikiant tekstus originalo kalba ir jų vertimus į lietuvių kalbą. [Anotacija knygoje]

ENtime translated into the Lithuanian language and published as a separate publication. This publication became one of the go-to publications not only for the researchers of the XVIIIth century Grand Duchy of Lithuania but also for the representatives of society who are interested in this troublesome period of history. However, recently, the increasing intensity of the research addressing the statehood development in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania of the second half of the XVIIIth century and the growing public interest in this topic have promoted the preparation of a new publication on the occasion of the 230th anniversary of the Constitution of 3 May, with the publication including not only the translation of this important document into the Lithuanian language, but also the initial text of the Constitution in its original language. Therefore, this new publication of the Constitution has been prepared and issued by including it in the "Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Constitution of 3 May and Mutual Pledge of the Two Nations commemoration of 2021 plan" of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. This publication consists of two structurally most important parts, namely the introductory articles presenting the meaning of the Constitution of 3 May and the complexity of the era and the text of the Constitution itself ("Governance Act" and the documents amending it) in the original language with the translation into the Lithuanian language.A number of publications of the Constitution of 3 May appeared on its anniversary. It is not surprising at all, since until now such publications appeared more frequently in the neighboring state of Poland rather than in Lithuania. However, in the year 2001, the Constitution's text was for the first time translated into the Lithuanian language and published as a separate publication. This publication became one of the go-to publications not only for the researchers of the XVIIIth century Grand Duchy of Lithuania but also for the representatives of society who are interested in this troublesome period of history.
