LTAntanas Jurgelionis – didi ir šviesi asmenybė, padėjusi tvirtus nepriklausomos Lietuvos sporto medicinos ir fizinio lavinimo pagrindus [p. 78].

ENAntanas Jurgelionis was an initiator of the Lithuanian Sport Museum, a creator of national physical training system. In 1925, he finished Saint Catherine’s boys gymnasium in Saint Petersburg with praise, after that – entered the Military Medical Academy. In 1920, A. Jurgelionis was called up for military service. He served in Infantry Regiment, Sanitary Detachment, and took part in fights for Lithuanian independence. In 1925, A. Jurgelionis graduated from Sorbonna University, Faculty of Medicine, where he defended a dissertation “Several Remarks Concerning Physical Training – Origin, Present State, and Future”. Since 1926 till 1929, he was a head of the Lithuanian Sports League. A. Jurgelionis was a leader of Lithuanian sportsmen delegation in Amsterdam Olympic Games, 1928. In Los Angeles Olympic Games, 1932, A. Jurgelionis was invited as a member of artistic performance jury. He was aware of science’s benefits for society, followed the same position as we are following nowadays and organized physical training activities’ classes. A. Jurgelionis’ articles, related to physical training and sports medicine matters were published in numerous newspapers and magazines, he announced over 60 scientific articles on virology, microbiology and gerontology. Doctor and lieutenant-colonel Antanas Jurgelionis emphasized, that physical training in armed forces has to be based on physical training and soldiers training.
