Summary / Abstract:

ENModern museum’s activity is meaningful only in a case if it is dedicated to different ways of communication with society. The result of such communication is a number of visitors, which is supposed to be perhaps the main indicator, showing that the work of particular museum is successful. Many of Lithuanian memorial museums are unable to successfully communicate with society for one very simple reason – they aren’t interesting to the public. It is urgent to modernize memorial museums, searching for variform museum communication. The paper analyses the hunting of new potential in museum communication’s sphere at memorial Poet Jovaras’ House-Museum. The result of this creative search was a reorganization of expositions: there was left just a minimal space for memorial exposition; the memorial rooms’ exposition communicates with visitor involving into typical, authentic everyday surrounding of a town-dweller of the 20th century, 6th–7th decades. Creating this new exposition, the theme dealing with book history was chosen, and an interior-exposition was created: “A Book-Store of the 1st Part of the 19th Century”. While updating the expositions, the notice was also taken to non-exhibition communication – attractive educational programs and cultural events. Educational programs for adults and cultural events intensify museum’s communication with society, in this way attracting new regular visitors. The keynote, gratifying result of exposition’s renewal at Poet Jovaras’ House is that visitors discovered this place newly.
