LTIlgą laiką klasifikatorius ir tezaurus naudojo informacinių sistemų kūrėjai, informacinių technologijų specialistai, vėliau bibliotekininkai. Šie įrankiai, skirti ieškoti ir tvarkyti informaciją, ypač svarbūs kuriant kompiuterines informacines sistemas. Pradėjus rengti Lietuvos integralią muziejų informacinę sistemą (toliau – LIMIS), muziejininkams terminai „klasifikatorius“, „tezauras“ taip pat tapo aktualūs, nes Lietuvos muziejus jungsiančioje duomenų bazėje bus kaupiami klasifikatoriai, tezaurai, raktažodžių ir personalijų žodynai, kiti su muziejine veikla susiję duomenys [p. 29].
ENSoon after the initiation of the Lithuanian Integral Museum Information System (LIMIS), the previously neglected terms of a “classifier” and “thesaurus” became particularly relevant. Integrating many Lithuanian museums, LIMIS will store classifiers, thesauri, keyword dictionary and the Name Authority File as well as additional museum-related data. The analysis carried out by the specialists at the Lithuanian Museums’ Centre for Information, Digitisation and LIMIS in 2009 indicated, that the classification of cultural heritage objects and the development of classification systems had received too little attention so far. It is impossible to draw entirely on international experience or translate the already existing thesauri and adapt them to the future LIMIS system due to the uniqueness of the Lithuanian language, the particularities of Lithuanian history and culture, and somewhat different traditions in museum field. LIMIS classifiers and thesauri are being compiled following the standards passed by the International Organization for Standardization and the Lithuanian Standardization Department as well as laws and orders passed by the Lithuanian Minister of Culture. Furthermore, our specialists consult the experience gained at foreign memory institutions along with the already existing classification systems. The result will be a huge database storing information about the cultural heritage held at the Lithuanian museums. With the help of LIMIS this information will be available on the Internet to anybody whether in Lithuania or any other country in the world.
