ENThe taking of property for the needs of the society - from a socio-economic point of view, this is a significant and sensitive area of the social relations, because two fundamental values compete here - the right of the private property, which is solidified and protected in the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania and the public need to use property for the social purposes. The projects of state importance are implemented in Lithuania, for the realization of which the land is expropriated. There are many different problems in the process of the land taking for the needs of the society. The article discusses the controversial procedural methods of the land taking, determining the correct amount of the compensation and the protection of landowners ’rights.
