ENPost-soviet era transformations in Central and Eastern European affected not only political and economic systems. There were significant changes in health and medicine sectors, including the rise of patient’s human rights regulation as well as the rise in general society’s understanding and perception of its own rights (so called “humanisation of medicine”). Home birth as a conscious, possible, and legal choice for expecting women is one of examples, that gave rise to animosities and intensive discussions within post-soviet societies, that was also a matter of extensive deliberation in the European Court of Human Rights (hereinafter – ECtHR).
