Summary / Abstract:

ENThe aim of the research - to find out what influence work has on students' achievements. Research tasks: 1. Analyse references on a chosen topic. 2. Create a survey questionnaire and collect data needed for the analysis. 3. Analyse the data collected during the survey. 4. Draw conclusions and make suggestions. Research methodology: 1. The study was conducted in 2022 February 3-16. 2. The object of the research is how combining work and study affects the learning outcomes. To summarize, working and studying has both positive and negative features. In Lithuania it’s impossible for a student to study if they do not have parents who are willing to take care of them as student grants do not provide enough money to live on. Around twenty percent of students have a hard time combining their work schedule and study time. Based on what a student is studying some jobs that are related to their profession are impossible to obtain as they require an academic degree to start work, therefore, students have to take up jobs that are not related to their field of study. Summarizing the research on how the work affects the learning outcomes of Vilnius city students and the analysis of reference literature, it can be assumed that a large part of students combine work with studies. The most frequently mentioned reasons why students start working are financial benefits, improvement of personal general abilities and practical skills, and expansion of the network of professional contacts.Analysing the impact of the work on the study results, it was noticed that the study results of the majority of students did not change. Thus, it can be assumed that when a student starts a job, their study results will not necessarily start to deteriorate. The study has revealed that students responsibly combine work and study, choosing to work according to a rolling schedule, working according to a free schedule, and setting the time when they will complete the work tasks. Some students do not combine work with studies. As a recommendation, students who combine work and studies can be offered to improve their personal time planning skills, look for a job related to their field of study, choose a job according to a free schedule. In this way, personal general skills can be improved, practical experience gained and learning outcomes will not deteriorate. [From the publication]
