ENDuring the interwar, the most important act which regulated the relations of Notary was 1918 Provisional Act of Lithuania Notary Rehabilitation. This act established qualification requirements for notaries: notaries must be sufficiently trained and experienced at notary work. The formation of Notary was strongly influenced by uncertain requirements for the profession, unpopularity and deficit of law graduates. Only around 10 percent of people working in Notary were lawyers. It was planned to prepare a new law however the Soviet occupation of Lithuania began which had postponed the development of legal system. After Lithuania reestablished independence, in 1992 Lithuanian notaries completed reform of Notary - from the State Notary Lithuania has shifted to the Europe-Latin Notary system. The first version of the Notary Law clearly regulated the qualification requirements for notaries: nationality, legal education, labor assessor seniority and qualification exam. The qualification requirements for notaries had been constantly improved in order to adapt them to the changing political, economic and social background. The current qualification requirements for notaries are regulated in detail and sometimes they are even more innovative compared to other legal professions. [From the publication]
