Summary / Abstract:

LTBernardą Brazdžionį dauguma skaitytojų pažįsta kaip tradicines krikščioniškas vertybes propaguojantį religinės poezijos kūrėją ir patriotinius siekius deklaruojantį, tautą žadinantį oratorių, kuris tik nedaugelyje eilėraščių išryškėja kaip poetas lyrikas. Istorinių lūžių kupina epocha nebuvo palanki aktyvaus, už visą žmoniją supantį blogį atsakingu besijaučiančio ir į pasaulio problemas jautriai reaguojančio žmogaus troškimui kurti asmeniškas "dainas" [p. 11].

ENThe article discusses the irony of Bernardas Brazdžionis' poetry. In his early poetry the world was seen as something that you can change and make it a better living place. The reality and experience correct this approach and then the view of the period becomes ironic. The poet masks as a comedian and laughs at a society, which acts as if it is solid, moral and devotional. He tries to show the hypocrisy of the people, who are supposed to be the elite. The experience of fleeing from one's country formed the content of his later poetry. He realizes the triviality of the small nation in the arena of global politics and understands that hopes to free Lithuania with the help of other European nations are vain. The poet rallies the propaganda of the UNO and its naive wish not to see the growing threat of communism. The retrospective wrong and current despair and future fears of the refugees fill the poetry of Brazdžionis. The irony of the poet is conditioned by the period of the historical breaks. The prostitution in a literally and figurative sense thrives in all sets of society and the authorities. The war and emigration take the last base out of the refugees. Laughter of the poet is a desperate gesture full of tragedy. The irony is the most significant in the poems of Brazdžionis where poetry resembles the prose not by the form of the texts, but by the purpose - wish to shake, to influence people. The struggle to reveal the truth in these texts is much more important than aesthetic satisfaction.
