Summary / Abstract:

ENIn recent years, both emotional intelligence and positive psychology have taken the attention of researchers from various scientific fields. Positive psychology is a new branch in psychology which is oriented to answering questions about human flourishment. As opposed to traditional psychology approaches, the research objects of positive psychology are involved with human flourishment, positive aspects of life, etc. These objects also include emotions and emotional intelligence. Nowadays, emotional intelligence is defined differently depending on the author and the theory on which emotional intelligence is based upon. In a broad sense, emotional intelligence can be defined as a constellation of abilities to effectively use emotional powers in everyday life. This means that the effective use of one’s emotional powers can be beneficial for human flourishment, thus connecting the main idea of positive psychology with emotional intelligence. This article aims to identify and define the connection and its links between positive psychology and emotional intelligence. To reach this goal, a scientific literature analysis has been conducted. First, various theories and models about emotional intelligence are presented and discussed. It is worth mentioning that all of these constructs have their scientifically based pros and cons, but despite of them, all of these constructs are equally beneficial in order for one to thrive. This is because emotional intelligence enables one to effectively control oneself in various situations. Thus, individuals with higher emotional intelligence are able to perform more effectively in solving daily tasks, which can lead to flourishment.Second, the main goal of positive psychology is defined and its main 3 levels are discussed. Based on the scientific literature, positive psychology researchers aim to answer questions on how and why humans thrive individually and as groups. It is because of this goal that the role of emotional intelligence becomes significantly important. When analysing the 3 different levels of positive psychology, various ties between them and emotional intelligence were identified. After conducting a scientific literature analysis, several conclusions were drawn. In a broad sense, there is a significant connection between the functions of emotional intelligence and the main idea of positive psychology. Hence, emotional intelligence is manifested constantly and its affect takes place at all 3 levels of positive psychology. This means that individuals with higher emotional intelligence are more likely to thrive at the subjective, individual and group levels of positive psychology because of their emotional powers and their control.
