ENThis article provides and overview on the preservation of the authentic portrait photograph of duke Mykolas Oginskis (1849–1902) and the preparation of a copy for long-term display. The photograph is kept in the collection of old photographs at the Samogitian Museum of Art located in the Palace of Plungė Manor. A large part of the collection comprises photographs depicting the palace of dukes Oginskis in Plungė, its owners Marija and Mykolas Oginskis, palace staff and residing musicians. It is likely that the photograph of Mykolas Oginskis was taken in 1885– 1895. The photographer is unknown. LDM Pranas Gudynas Centre for Restoration carried out a technological analysis on the photograph, the print was preserved and prepared for further safekeeping. A copy of the photograph (1:1 scale) was prepared for permanent display. A scanned image of the portrait was retouched and framed behind glass.
