Summary / Abstract:

Norėdama svariau sugrįžti į savo tėvų žemę, įsilieti į jos kultūros gyvenimą, dailininkė I. Suokaitė-Helmer po parodos visus savo kūrinius padovanojo Lietuvos dailės muziejui.

ENBetween 1st and 25th June 2017, the LDM Vilnius Picture Gallery hosted an exhibition of paintings and graphic art by German-based artist Ingryda Suokaitė-Helmer entitled The Limits of Colours. It was the first professional presentation of the German-born Lithuanian artist’s creative work in Lithuania. After the exhibition, I. Suokaitė-Helmer donated all 70 paintings and graphic artworks to the Lithuanian Art Museum. Her art studies in 1964 to 1969 at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich under professors Ernst Geitlinger and Georg Meistermann shaped the tendencies of constructively-oriented abstract thought in I. Suokaitė’s work. Colour is the dominating aspect in her paintings but the artist is also interested in composition, expression through shapes and logic. In collage works, she uses ropes and compositions of ropes alongside colours and paint textures. In graphic art, I. Suokaitė values a minimalist expression of changing moods based on contrasting bright monochrome colours. Sheets of graphic art are often joined together into series, where an idea is developed through variations of colour combinations. In 1969–1972 she acquired a teacher of art and technical drawing speciality and spent the major part of her life working as an art teacher, painting only in her free time. She became a full-time artist as recently as 2007. She has been a member of the Fürstenfeldbruck Artists’ Union since 1985 and a member of the GEDOK group in Munich since 1991. The artist is one of the founders of the Freiraum culture society (1994) in Eichenau and an active member of the Neue Gruppe (Munich). I. Suokaitė-Helmer actively participates in exhibitions. Since 1963, she has been holding solo exhibitions and actively participating in group exhibitions in Germany, USA, Argentina and Italy.
