Immigration in Lithuania : a variety of migration objectives

ENThe demand of Lithuanian labour market, as a magnet for economic welfare, attracts precisely third-country people with weaker economic prosperity than Lithuania. However, not all of those who arrived, had the only purpose – to work, so what are the other objectives of migration? Posing this question as a problem and answering to it, is the main work task, because a variety of migration objectives, particularly in Lithuania, have not been properly studied in theoretical level. The object of the research - people from third countries immigrated in Lithuania and the aim of the research is to analyse the migration objectives of the entry of persons from third countries into Lithuania. The tasks of the research can be expressed as: 1) identification of theoretical aspects of (i) migration as a phenomenon; examination of immigration statistics and tendencies in Lithuania. This article provides theoretical insights that relate to the problems of research: theory-based concepts discussed; the phenomenon of migration identified in the analysis of scientific literature. Statistics were investigated to examine immigration tendencies in Lithuania, based on statistics provided by the Department of Statistics, Migration, Employment Services. The results indicate the main reason for immigration - possibility of economic well-being. [From the publication]
