Summary / Abstract:

ENThis is an economic and cultural overview of Joniškis rural district, which consisted of 143 settlements in 1918–1940. There were 1 Roman Catholic, 1 Evangelical Lutheran and 3 Jewish houses of worship in the district. The area of Joniškis district, according to the data of 1931, was 428 square kilometers, the total population was 15,639, the population density was 36.8 people per 1 sq. km. Then Joniškis district was the largest in terms of population, the second in terms of land area and the fourth in terms of population per square kilometer.
