ENThe aim of the article is to provide a new interpretation of B. Sruoga's (1896-1947) poetry. Two volumes of his symbolist verse, "Sun and Sand" (1920) and "In the Paths of the Gods" (1923) as well as the expressionistic poem "Inner City" (1922) were published. B. Sruoga harmonized the freedom of improvisation with the requirement of artistic structure in his lyrics and, thus, merged various stylistic elements of Modernist fin-de-siede trends, incorporated a peculiar combination of the mythological past and the modern present.
