Idėjų istoriografijos gimimas: Arthur Oncken Lovejoy

LTPasakymas „idėjų istorija“ Vakarų mokslinėje raštijoje pasėtas filosofijos istoriją tyrinėjusiam pastoriui iš Augsburgo Johannui Jakobui Bruckeriui (1696 1770) išleidus „Historia doctrina de ideis“ (Mokymo apie idėjas istorija, 1723), kurioje išdėstyta istorinė platoniškųjų idėjų apžvalga. Kaip tik Bruckerį turėdamas galvoje neapolietis retorikos profesorius Giambattista Vico (1668-1744) savo „Naująjį mokslą apie bendrąją tautų prigimtį“ (1725) laikė savotiška „idėjų istorija“ (la storia delle idee). Anot Vico, ši istorija „prasidėjo ne filosofams pirmąsyk susimąsčius [riflettere] apie žmonių idėjas“, o pirmykščiams žmonėms apskritai ėmus galvoti žmogiškai [umanamente pensare]. Trumpai tariant, idėjų istorijos pradžia – ne Platonas, o mitas ir poezija. Įsidėmėtina, jog nuostata minties pasaulį tyrinėti plačiąja to žodžio prasme, neapsiribojant ne tik akademine filosofija, bet ir filosofija apskritai, idėjų istoriografijoje lieka gyvybinga ligi šiolei [Iš Įvado].

ENIntroductory part of the article presents an account of the formative period of the historiography of ideas in which the historical beginnings and later developments of the discipline are discussed. The introductory part is followed by an analysis of the studies of one of the most renowned Western historiographers, Arthur Oncken Lovejoy, with special notice being paid to the methodological aspects of these studies. The three main themes under scrutiny are as follows: the idea as the object of a historiographic study; the methods of historiography in a practical and theoretical perspective, and points of divergence between historiography and philosophy.
