Summary / Abstract:

ENRamūnas Kasparavičius (b. 1948) is an innovative contemporary writer, and the author of original and unconventional works that are rather removed from the central line of development of Lithuanian literature. He rejects means of expression that are admired by the ordinary reader, and does not aim to intrigue the readership with popular versions of typical plots. The postmodern attitudes which literary critics observe in his work emerge not from following literary fashion, but rather from a deep knowledge of world literature, and a personal approach to his creative work. Reading his books, it often seems that Kasparavičius focuses more on the writing process, the ability of the imagination to embrace the world’s controversial diversity, and not on a way of creating an aesthetic effect.
