ENThe investigation of Monsingnor Petras Baltuška’s activities calls for a detailed study of the creation of the sovereign Lithuanian Church province. It is important to comprehend the conditions which dereemined and shaped his vocational road and, also the situation of the Church in Lithuania at that time. For that purpose we offer an extensive outline covered of the diocese of Panevėžys where the monsignor grew to maturity and after being ordained priest he is still carrying out priestly functions in the parishes of this diocese. A special focus of at- temption of the history of the parishes in Ramygala, Palėvenė, Anykščiai, Zarasai and Daugailiai resulted from the monsignor’s steady interest in the history of these parishes and his genuine respect for the confratrcs. During all the years of his priesthood Monsignor Petras Baltuška has been strengthening both spiritual and economic foundations of the Church. Under Soviet occupation he became an active participant in the campaign for collecting signatures under all kinds of petitions to the occupational authorities with a view of providing believers with religious literature. After the restoration of Lithuanian independence up until now he has been bringing from oblivion the outstanding people of Utena and the whole of Lithuania. The monograph is the 6th book in the series “The Light of the Church”, conceived by its author. The monograph looks at the clergyman’s life: his childhood and years of learning and studies, his work as a priest in different parishes in Soviet time and in the restored Independent Lithuania, his share in creating the Living Church, his struggle for the believers’ rights under Soviet rule and his contribution to decorating and embellishing the interior and exterior of churches. The personality of Monsignor Petras Baltuška is portrayed in the context of the history of the parishes and the activities of the confratres, most of whom shared in molding him into a priest and set illustrious examples for his subsequent activities. Substantiated by archival documents, the biographies of the priests who used to work in the diocese of Panevėžys or who were related with this part of the country, for the first time rectify the established errors found in printed works and become a new source for further investigations. The monograph is composed of four parts, a foreword - introduction, conclusions - public tribute to Monsignor Petras Baltuška, supplements, a summary, abbreviations, sources and reference literature, an index of personal names, a note about the author of the monograph.
