Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article discusses the personality of Nietzsche, his controversial creative legacy, and the problem of the relative character of the very limits of insanity. The author, focusing on various understandings of insanity offered by Nietzsche himself, reflects on the whole context of ideas related to these different conceptions of insanity. The transitional period between the "early" and the "late" Nietzsche is, in the author’s opinion, especially important in this respect. The article highlights the positive aspects of "relative" insanity, as Nietzsche understands it, and its importance to the processes of renovation, creation, and cognition. The Nietzschean understanding of the flexibility of the limits of insanity reveals the nonclassical character of his conception of insanity. These ideas, generated by Nietzsche, were later developed in the tradition of postmodern French philosophy, especially in the context of reflections about the origins of psychopatology.
