ENIn pre-Second World War history, the year 1938 held a pivotal spot: place the political crises deepened in Europe, the League of Nations weakened ever more, and the Munich Pact, having supported and brought about by the realization ofthe expansion plans of Germany and Italy cast its shadow on the general political situation in Europe. On the other hand the Baltic States' attitude towards the League of Nations was at least partly influenced by those of the Scandinavian countries and Finland. Considering the possibility of war with France as well as with the Soviet Union, Germany was especially interested in the disintegration of the League of Nations. Germany considered all collective and multilateral defense agreements as dangerous to Germany. As regards the informed opinion of the Baltic states the Munich Pact opened the period of German hegemony in Central and Eastern Europe.
