Summary / Abstract:

ENThe objective of the particular article is to follow up the change and the relativity of features of the separation of the concept one's own-the strange analysing the attitude towards a Pole depicted in the texts of the Baltic peoples' prose of the second half of the 20th century. For the analysis the following novels have been chosen: "Balta drobulė" (White Cloth, 1958) by Antanas Škėma, "Pēc pastardienas" (After the Doomsday, 1968) by Gunārs Janovskis, "Vilniaus pokeris" (Poker of Vilnius, 1989) by Ričardas Gavelis and "Saulē mērktie" (Soaked in the Sun, 1995) by Alberts Bels. The concept one's own-the strange in the course of the 20th century has paid its basic attention to the internal similarity or the difference of the person's feelings and world outlook putting on the back burner the secondary factors (social, age, religious, national belonging). The Latvian writers are more interested in the question on finding of their own in the world having remained without its centre and meaning; Lithuanian authors (in particular, R. Gavelis), in their turn, are more centred on the revelation of their own (Lithuanian) identity. The common tendency - the dominant of the strange in the world both in the global and individual aspect.
