Verbal behaviour of Japanese students in conversational Lithuanian
LTDarbas tiria užsieniečių verbalinį elgesį ir komunikacinę strategiją, mokantis lietuvių kalbos. Tyrime remiamasi japonų studentų, studijuojančių lietuvių kalbą Vytauto Didžiojo universitete, apklausos medžiaga. Ji surinkta įrašius ir transkribavus pokalbius ir apima maždaug 12000 žodžių. Kalbinti trys pradedančiojo lygio japonų tautybės studentai. Darbo tikslas – išsiaiškinti, kokios aplinkybės arba priežastys lemia kodų kaitos, pauzių ar pakartojimų atsiradimą tyrimo dalyvių kalboje. Kalbos kodų kaita ir kodų maišymas yra paplitęs reiškinys daugiakalbių žmonių šnekoje. Čia šis fenomenas tyrinėtas, kai kalbama ne gimtąja kalba. Tai – kitos kalbos atskiro žodžio, net ištisų sakinių įterpimas, kitos kalbos panaudojimas pakartojant, nesant tikram ar teisingai išreikšta mintis, kitos kalbos įterpimas norint suteikti papildomos informacijos, išsamesnį paaiškinimą arba tiesiog dėl laiko stokos. Analizė parodė, jog pagrindinės kodų kaitos priežastys yra užpildyti žodyno spragas, įtraukti kalbintoją bei siekis raiškiau, detaliau išreikšti mintį. Šiuo atveju japonai studentai vartojo anglų kalbą, kurią jie mokėjo geriau nei lietuvių. Kita šių studentų kalbinė strategija yra nepaaiškinamos pauzės, iškilus gramatinėms problemoms, pauzės žodžių viduryje arba tarp pakartotų formų. Pauzės leidžia jiems pagalvoti ir kompensuoti laiko stoką, o pakartojimais kalbinamieji siekia suprantamiau ir aiškiau suformuluoti mintį. Tyrimas patvirtina, kad net pradedančiojo lygio studentai yra pajėgūs bendrauti ir dalyvauti pokalbiuose užsienio kalba anksčiau minėtų kalbinių strategijų pagalba.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Kodo perjungimas; Pakartojimas; Pauzė; Code switching; Repetition; Pausing.
ENThe paper studies verbal behaviour and communication strategies of foreigners learning the Lithuanian language. The study is based on materials of a survey conducted among Japanese students studying the Lithuanian language at Vytautas Magnus University. They were collected by recording and transcribing conversations and cover about 12,000 words. Three Japanese students of the beginner level were interviewed. The goal of the paper is to find out what circumstances or reasons determine emergence of code rotation, pauses or reiterations in the speech of the survey participants. Rotation of linguistic codes and confusion of codes is a widely-spread phenomenon in the speech of multilingual people. Here this phenomenon is studied when people speak not their native language. This means insertion of a separate word or even whole sentences from another language, use of another language when repeating, when one is not sure whether the idea is expressed correctly, insertion of another language in order to provide additional information, a more comprehensive explanation or just for the lack of time. Analysis has shown that the main reasons for code rotation are the need to fill in vocabulary gaps, involve the interviewer and express the idea more eloquently and in greater detail. In this case the Japanese students were using English which they knew better than Lithuanian. Another linguistic strategy of these students is unclear pauses emerging when facing grammatical problems, pauses in the middle of words or between repeated forms. Pauses allow them thinking and compensating for the lack of time, and by repetitions the interviewees seek to formulate the idea more comprehensibly and clearly. The study proves that even beginner students are able to communicate and participate in a conversation in a foreign language using the above linguistic strategies.
